Bebop & Hard Bop

They missed out Coltrane, one of the great pioneers and exponents! If you listen to the 
Miles group that included Trane and Cannonball you can hear the difference between 
Trane's hard bop and Cannonball's more traditional bebop approach.

Bebop originally revolved around altered versions of the 12-bar blues and rhythm 
changes to a large extent, was very dominant-seventh-based and had very convoluted 
melody lines. Hard bop introduced originals not based on these changes, with simpler 
melody lines, and was more minor-seventh based (the m7 was even used as a tonic; in 
bebop it would have had to have been a m6); also a lot of harmonic side-slipping in the 
compositions (Moment's Notice, for instance, begins with | Ebm7 Ab7 | Em7 A7 | Dma, 
IIRR) and enharmonic writing (Benny Golson!).
